About

Welcome to the Sikh Women’s Health Initiative (SWHI), a cornerstone of health advocacy and education for Sikh women. Founded in Dallas, Texas, by Hareena Sangha, a passionate medical student at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW), SWHI aims to bridge the gap between cultural traditions and modern healthcare, offering informed, culturally sensitive women’s health information to the Sikh community.

Founder: Hareena Sangha

Hareena’s story begins in Patiala, India, and takes root in Michigan, USA, where her upbringing intertwined with her Sikh heritage and sparked a passion for healthcare. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), Hareena is now pursuing her medical degree at UTSW, alongside a Master of Public Health (MPH). Drawing from the Sikh principle of ‘seva,’ or selfless service, Hareena is dedicated to improving women’s health in underserved communities, leveraging her medical and public health education to empower them through culturally sensitive, accurate health information.

Hareena’s vision is for every Sikh woman to have the resources and knowledge to make empowered health decisions.
